ACOH focuses on the development and education of Girls in rural regions. We believe girls have an important role in the society and so must be prepared. Unfortunately, this is usually not the case in rural regions where poverty levels are high & family income is limited. The struggle against ignorance of girls who have no resources for education is a challenge for all (both men & women); for no meaningful development will take place if half the population is illiterate.
Studies also show that while many struggle to enroll in school, they are forced to drop out before completion due to a lack of tuition & education materials( i.e. uniforms, books, and sanitary pads) , early pregnancies, and forced marriages.
Additionally, due to a lack of guidance, many adolescent and teenage girls are not able to cope with today’s peer pressures and lack self-esteem and confidence. Cases of harmful behaviors( drugs and alcohol use) and suicide rates have therefore increased.
To deal with these challenges, our programs focus on:
- Supporting girls from rural poor families through education (tuition and education materials).
- Supporting adolescent and teenage girls through enrichment programs to equip them with knowledge and skills to navigate through daily challenges, promote healthier relationships and lifestyle choices, enhance self-esteem & self-confidence, and decrease the likelihood of initiation to harmful behaviors.
- Supporting girls in primary and secondary schools through mentorship to increase graduation rates to achieve their professional goals, interests, and life aspirations.
