Women’s Empowerment & Community Development
More than 70% of the people living in extreme poverty worldwide are women. For these women, poverty is more than the absence of money — it means denied rights, lost opportunities, and silenced voices.
At ACOH, we are passionate about promoting gender equality and empowering women to create lasting change. Our community-driven development (CDD) approach ensures that solutions come from within the communities themselves — because we believe they understand their challenges best.
Our Focus Areas
We address the root causes of gender inequality by combining education, advocacy, and economic empowerment. Our programs focus on:
- Vocational Training for Women
Carpentry, hairdressing, mechanics, plumbing, garment making, food and beverage, construction — equipping young women with employable skills to escape poverty. - Economic Empowerment & Livelihood Support
Helping women start small businesses, access financial literacy training, and achieve economic independence. - Food Security, Water & Sanitation Projects
Improving access to clean water and sustainable farming to reduce daily hardships. - Gender-Based Violence Prevention & Advocacy
Supporting survivors of domestic violence and campaigning for safer communities. - Capacity Building & Community Development
Working with women’s community-based organizations (CBOs) and self-help groups to implement long-term, sustainable solutions.
Why Women’s Empowerment Matters
Women and girls living in poverty face multiple forms of discrimination and are at greater risk of violence, early marriage, and exploitation. Poor girls are 2.5 times more likely to be married before 18 compared to their peers from wealthier households. Without access to education or skills, many young women remain trapped in poverty with limited opportunities for a better future.
By providing training, resources, and advocacy, we enable women to sustain their livelihoods, gain independence, and lead change in their communities.
