Theory of Change
Creating Lasting Change Through Community-Led Solutions
At ACOH, we believe that sustainable development happens when communities have the knowledge, resources, and opportunities to shape their own future. Our Theory of Change is grounded in the belief that investing in people—especially women, girls, children, and marginalized communities—creates resilient families, thriving communities, and lasting social transformation.
By addressing the root causes of poverty, inequality, and exclusion, we empower communities to become self-reliant and build a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Our Mission
We partner with marginalized and underserved communities across Kenya to break the cycle of poverty, injustice, and gender inequality by delivering sustainable, community-driven solutions that improve lives and create lasting opportunities.
Our work focuses on four interconnected pillars:
- Building sustainable livelihoods that strengthen household incomes and economic resilience.
- Promoting clean, healthy, and climate-resilient environments for present and future generations.
- Expanding access to safe and reliable water for households, schools, and communities.
- Improving access to quality, inclusive education so every child can reach their full potential.
Our Vision for Impact
We envision a just, inclusive, and prosperous society where every person, particularly women, girls, children, and vulnerable populations in rural communities, has:
- Equal access to education, healthcare, water, and economic opportunities.
- The confidence, knowledge, and resources to make informed decisions about their future.
- The opportunity to live with dignity, security, and hope.
- Sustainable livelihoods that enable families and communities to thrive for generations.
Our Theory of Change
We believe that when individuals and communities have equitable access to education, economic opportunities, essential services, and supportive social systems, they are empowered to overcome poverty, challenge inequality, and become active agents of lasting change.
Our holistic, people-centered approach strengthens individuals, families, and communities by addressing the interconnected barriers that limit development while promoting local leadership, inclusion, and long-term sustainability.
Equity, Inclusion and Empowerment
We promote equal opportunities for women, men, girls, boys, and persons with disabilities by expanding access to essential services, advocating for human rights, and empowering communities to challenge harmful social norms and discriminatory practices. Through awareness, leadership development, and community engagement, we foster inclusive societies where everyone can participate and succeed.
Evidence-Based Action
Our programs are informed by research, community consultations, and continuous learning. We use evidence to design practical, gender-responsive interventions that improve educational outcomes, promote women’s economic empowerment, strengthen livelihoods, and influence policies that create lasting impact.
Integrated Community Development
Poverty is multidimensional, and so are our solutions. We integrate education, livelihoods, health, water, environmental conservation, and gender equality to address the root causes of vulnerability. By strengthening every aspect of community life, we help individuals and families build resilience and create sustainable pathways out of poverty.
Local Leadership and Sustainable Change
We believe that communities are the architects of their own development. We work alongside local leaders, schools, community groups, government institutions, and other partners to strengthen local capacity, encourage community ownership, and ensure that positive change continues long after our projects have ended.
The Change We Seek
Through strong partnerships, inclusive participation, and sustainable community-led development, ACOH is building a future where every child can learn, every woman can thrive, every family can earn a dignified livelihood, and every community has the opportunity to flourish.

Together, we are creating stronger communities, transforming lives, and building a more equitable future for all.
